Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia

On January 10th, 2010, one of my dogs, Big Steve was diagnosed as “Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia.”

This is what happened. On January 9th, 2010, I noticed Big Steve won’t eat food. He has never lost his interest in food. I noticed he was staggering. We changed the food from some brand to “Blue Wilderness.” We thought he might eat if we change the food. Next day on January 10th, I was taking my dogs out and I noticed he had really strong colored pee and kinda staggering again. I played with him at home and he just fell down. My husband and I had a bad feeling and thought something is not right. We took him to the emergency hospital on that day and had him an exam all night.

From the exam, the doctor diagnosed him as Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. I had never heard anything like that before. Anyway his condition was really bad,  so we needed him to hospitalize for the night. The only good news we heard that day was, we brought him to the hospital soon, so the doctor said he might be able to make it. Of course he still was in a dangerous situation.

Next day, on January 11th, we moved him from the emergency hospital to his general hospital. Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia is some sort of disorders characterized by a malfunction of the immune system that produces autoantibodies, which attack red blood cells as if they were substances foreign to the body. His immune system is killing his red blood cells. It’s like an AIDS I think.

His doctor gave us some documents about “Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia” and highlight  the important part. So, I put all the highlighted part together and uploaded in here.

*The picture of these pug in the document is something I just attached.
